RYA Advanced Pilotage

This is a higher level course for people moving on from DaySkipper towards UK Coastal Skipper.

 

This course is ideal for those who want to progress their night pilotage skills, but might not yet have the experience required for the UK Coastal Skipper course.

 

This course is extremely well suited to those who navigate in busy stretches of water and/or close to major ports. Pilotage, especially in night conditions can be confusing with numerous lights and without land reference. Our team will aid you in the use of your theory and equipment to help you become effective at controlling your vessel and having confidence in more confined areas of water.

 

It will be assumed that you theory knowledge to the standard of the UK Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster™ Offshore shorebased course, a VHF/SRC certificate and first aid qualification. You must be 17 to take this course.

 

The course consists of:

  • Passage planning

  • Preparation for sea

  • Pilotage Passage making and responsibility as a skipper (daylight hours)

  • Use of radar

  • Boat handling

  • Dealing with adverse weather conditions

  • Dealing with emergency situations Night cruising
