This course
The RYA Diesel Engine course is a practical one-day programme designed to give boat owners, skippers and crew the knowledge and confidence to maintain a marine diesel engine, prevent common breakdowns and diagnose faults at sea.
Mechanical failure remains one of the leading causes of lifeboat call-outs to leisure craft. This course focuses on understanding how a marine diesel engine works, routine servicing, fault finding and the practical skills needed to keep your engine operating safely and reliably.

Certificate issuing criteria
Successful candidates receive the RYA Diesel Engine Course Certificate, demonstrating an understanding of the operation, maintenance and fault-finding of marine diesel engines.
This course is highly recommended for anyone operating a motorboat or sailing yacht and is particularly beneficial for candidates progressing towards the RYA Coastal Skipper, Yachtmaster Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore qualifications, as well as owners wishing to reduce the likelihood of engine failure at sea.
