RYA Radar Course
This course
The RYA Radar course is a one-day practical and theory course designed to teach skippers how to use marine radar effectively as an aid to navigation and collision avoidance. Radar is an essential piece of equipment for operating safely in restricted visibility, at night and in busy shipping areas. However, it is only effective when the operator fully understands its capabilities and limitations.
Suitable for both sail and powerboat skippers, this course combines classroom instruction with practical radar exercises using RYA-approved software or, where available, afloat on an authorised training vessel.

Certificate issuing criteria
Successful candidates receive the RYA Radar Certificate, demonstrating competence in the safe operation of marine radar as an aid to navigation and collision avoidance.
The course is particularly valuable for anyone operating in poor visibility, at night or in commercial shipping areas, and is highly recommended for skippers progressing towards RYA Coastal Skipper, Yachtmaster Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore qualifications.
