VHF SRC Marine Radio (Short Range Certificate)
This course
The RYA Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum legal qualification required to operate marine VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) radio equipment on any British-flagged vessel fitted with a fixed or handheld VHF radio. It is an essential qualification for leisure boaters, commercial skippers and professional crew.
Marine VHF radio is one of the most important safety systems carried on board, enabling communication with the Coastguard, harbour authorities, marinas and other vessels. This course teaches the correct operating procedures and prepares candidates for the practical and written RYA examination.

• Distress, urgency and safety procedures
• Mayday and Pan-Pan calls
• Medical assistance procedures
• Ship-to-shore telephone calls

Certificate issuing criteria
On successful completion, candidates will receive the RYA Short Range Certificate (SRC), the legal qualification required to operate marine VHF/DSC radio equipment.
