This course
The RYA Coastal Skipper Motor Cruising Practical Course is an advanced five-day programme designed for experienced motor cruiser skippers wishing to undertake longer coastal and offshore passages by day and night. The course develops advanced skippering, navigation and seamanship skills, preparing candidates for independent cruising in more challenging conditions and providing an excellent foundation for the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates of Competence.
Training is delivered aboard a well-equipped motor cruiser by experienced RYA instructors, with an emphasis on practical seamanship, passage planning, leadership and sound decision-making.

• International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS)

Certificate issuing criteria
Successful candidates receive the RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Certificate (Motor Cruising), demonstrating the ability to skipper a motor cruiser safely on coastal passages by day and night. The course also provides excellent preparation for candidates intending to progress towards the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence.
