This course
The RYA Safety Boat course is a two-day advanced practical programme designed for experienced powerboat drivers who provide safety cover for sailing clubs, watersports centres, training organisations and racing events. The course develops the practical rescue skills, boat handling techniques and decision-making required to operate safely as a rescue or support boat.
Suitable for those supporting dinghies, windsurfers, paddleboards, kayaks and canoes, the course combines realistic rescue scenarios with advanced powerboat handling to prepare candidates for a wide range of operational situations.

Required experience
Should have a basic understanding of sailing boats and windsurfers. RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to this course.

Content
Preparation, boat handling, dinghy rescue, windsurfer rescue, kayak or canoe rescue (can be covered as theory), towing, end-of-day procedures, safety, suitability of craft, local factors, communication, rescuing other water users
Certificate issuing criteria
Successful candidates receive the RYA Safety Boat Certificate, demonstrating the ability to provide effective safety and rescue cover for sailing, windsurfing, paddle sports, racing and training activities.
The qualification is widely recognised by sailing clubs, watersports centres, training organisations and commercial operators requiring competent safety boat drivers.
